Acyclovir is a synthetic purine nucleoside analog
derived from guanine with selective antiviral effect
on herpes simplex viruses and varicella-zoster virus.
Acyclovir prevents this virus from functioning normally.
Virus reproduction is stopped.
Treatment
the inflections caused by varicella-zoster virus,
skin and mucous membrane inflections due to herpes
simplex virus. Prophylaxis of herpes simplex inflection
in patients who are immunocompromised including
those with bone marrow transplant and leukemis.
Suppression of recurrent herpes simplex virous
inflections.
